And Why They Worked
Videos are powerful for schools — but only when they feel real.
The best school videos aren’t over-scripted or staged. They capture culture, pride, and the everyday moments that make a community what it is.
Here are two favourites from 2025, each for a different reason.
🎬 St Thomas of Canterbury College (Christchurch) — Energy + Brotherhood
This one is pure school spirit.
At Education Web Solutions, we spent the day filming at St Thomas of Canterbury College, and the finished piece is full of energy, brotherhood, and the kind of school culture you can’t fake.
What made it even more special: two of the school’s own students shadowed our team on the day — and they didn’t just watch. They were hands-on with cameras, lighting, shot setup, and even a bit of directing. Some of their footage made it into the final cut.
Favourite moment:
Right at the end — seniors walking juniors down the hallway with the spotlight, stopping at the wall of past graduates. It began as a natural moment we noticed during the shoot, and it became one of those scenes that truly carries the story.
🎬 Lake Colac School — Meaningful Real-World Learning
Lake Colac School is one of the most meaningful video projects we’ve been part of.
It’s a specialist setting — and seeing real-world learning in action was unreal. The school runs programs and learning experiences that help students build confidence and independence, including:
-
GSM
-
enterprise education
-
and even a mini “Woolies” style setup where students create shopping lists, buy groceries, and take turns behind the counter
Projects like this require a different approach. At EWS, our priority is always to create a calm environment, build trust, and make sure students feel comfortable around our team — so we can capture moments that are natural, respectful, and true to the school.
These shoots can be more demanding for everyone involved, but they’re also the most rewarding — because the work happening in specialist schools deserves to be seen and understood.

What makes a school video work
(every time)
Across all the schools we work with, the videos that perform best and age well have a few things in common:
-
Authentic moments (not staged lines)
-
A clear theme (culture, learning, pathways, belonging, student voice)
-
Strong visuals + pace (good music, tight edit, natural energy)
-
Real people, real places, real community — so it feels like your school
Want a school video that feels real?
If your school is considering video this year and wants something that captures culture without being over-produced or “cringe”, we’d love to help.
Reach out to the EWS team — we’re happy to share our shoot-day checklist and what makes the process smooth for staff and students.
